Water Research Australia is thrilled to announce the addition of two new staff to the BIG Team, bringing valuable expertise to the organisation.

Dr Louise McKenzie joins as Research Manager

Dr Louise McKenzie has joined as a Research Manager based in Newcastle, NSW. Louise brings an extensive background in environmental science, most recently serving as the Team Leader for Natural Hazards at the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment, and Water. Her former decade-long tenure at Hunter Water provided her with comprehensive experience delivering applied science programs within the region, spanning from drinking water catchments through to open ocean outfalls. Louise also served as Chair of Hunter Water’s Reconciliation Plan Working Group and previously chaired WaterRA’s Research Leadership Program Advisory Committee.

Tilly Symonds takes on Member, Events and Communications Coordinator role

Tilly Symonds has been appointed as Member, Events and Communications Coordinator, filling in while Engagement Officer Jessica Burgess is on parental leave until June 2025. Tilly’s diverse background spans communications, HR management, and project management across sectors such as professional services, federal and state government, energy, and defence. Known for her strong stakeholder relationship management skills, Tilly has previously excelled in the professional consulting and events industries.
