Research Outcomes | From Detection to Source Attribution: Advancing Wastewater Surveillance for Emerging Contaminants

Join Madara Weerasooriyagedara from the University of Melbourne for a knowledge sharing event to learn about the outcomes of Project #4551.

This presentation will present the findings of PhD project "From Detection to Source Attribution: Advancing Wastewater Surveillance for Emerging Contaminants".

It will provide an overview of a comprehensive wastewater surveillance framework developed through PhD research at the University of Melbourne. By integrating targeted chemical analysis, high-resolution mass spectrometry, receptor modelling, and interpretable machine learning, the study advances understanding of contaminant occurrence, spatial variability, and potential source drivers within wastewater systems.

The presentation will highlight how these approaches can support evidence-based decision-making, source attribution, targeted monitoring, and proactive management of contaminants of emerging concern, with relevance to both the scientific community and the water industry.

This event, FREE and exclusively for WaterRA members, will provide an opportunity to learn more about the project outcomes, and recommendations to advance this research.
