Research Outcomes | Project 1140 Catchment Health Metrics

Join the project team behind Project 1140 'Catchment Health Metrics' deliver the research outcomes including how the framework brings together remote sensing, land use data, water quality monitoring and catchment morphometrics into a practical toolkit for assessing and evaluating catchment condition in relation to hydrology and water quality.

Project 1140 | Catchment Health Metrics.

Healthy catchments are fundamental to resilient water supplies, biodiversity conservation, and community wellbeing. However, consistently assessing “catchment health” in a way that is meaningful, comparable, and outcome-focused has remained a persistent challenge for the water sector.

Through Project 1140, WaterRA, in collaboration with partner utilities and Alluvium Consulting, has developed a practical and adaptable framework, supported by a comprehensive toolbox, to assess catchment health.
This webinar will present the project outcomes, highlighting how the framework integrates remote sensing, land use data, water quality monitoring, and catchment morphometrics into a cohesive and practical toolkit.

The approach enables robust assessment and evaluation of catchment condition, particularly in relation to hydrology and water quality. Attendees will also gain insights into its application across a range of Australian case study catchments experiencing diverse pressures, including changing rainfall patterns, bushfires, unsealed roads, mining, agriculture, and urban development.

Join us to hear directly from the project team as they outline the research findings, technical underpinnings, case studies, and practical applications emerging from Project 1140. The session will also explore the future of catchment health assessment in Australia, including opportunities to support a more consistent and coordinated national approach across the water sector.
